“How Much Does It Cost?”

At Langley Leadership Group, we often hear potential clients lead with this question: “What’s the price?” or “How much does it cost?”

To get the most out of life, we must learn to ask the right questions. Here’s an analogy that might help: When we summon an Uber or cab, we have to provide our intended destination before the journey can begin. When the driver asks where we want to go, we give him a specific landmark or address.

When approaching new opportunities and projects, “How much does it cost?” is not the most important question to ask your coach, mentor, rep, account manager or anyone else who might serve or support you. While it’s understandable and wise to be price-conscious in today’s world (Who doesn’t LOVE a good deal?), it’s crucial to recognize that price should not be the determining factor.

We need to start with questions that matter more:

  • What does this solution provide for me?
  • Will it help save me time or money?
  • Will it enhance my efficiency or improve my outcomes?
  • Will it prepare me for greater opportunities and success in the future?

These are just a few of the considerations that should guide our decisions and purchasing journey. Understanding the value and impact of a solution is far more important than simply knowing the cost. By focusing on what truly matters, we can make informed decisions that benefit us in the long run.

When it comes to cost, maybe an even better question is how much will this cost me if I DON’T do it? Part of the problem is that we often bring a consumer mindset into these types of decisions when the foundation needs to be an investment mindset. This incorporates knowing the difference between “spending” versus “investing.”

I encourage you to start shifting your mindset from price-first to value-first. It’s a small change that can lead to significant improvements in how we achieve our objectives and strategic goals. Anyone looking to thrive in the future must invest in their personal growth and leadership development today.
